Germantown, MD – Former Naval Flight Officer and combat aviator Tom Royals, Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in Maryland's Sixth Congressional District, participated in an Opt-Out Silent Rally on Wednesday outside the Federal Courthouse in Greenbelt with fellow Maryland parents. Royals released the following statement following the event.
"Parents have fundamental rights in the education of their children – and if they have deep-seated convictions and beliefs that conflict with material being taught in the classroom, they should have the freedom to opt out." Royals said. "When parents send their children off to school in the morning, they deserve to know their student is getting the best education possible to set them up for success, free from an ideological agenda."
"I'm proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with every Maryland parent who is committed to exercising their rights in the education of their children," Royals added. "By upholding the rights of parents and combatting efforts to indoctrinate students in the classroom, we can ensure Maryland offers the next generation a world class education that instills pride in America and prepares young people to compete in the 21st century economy."
